Students in the Arts and Culture program at Downsview Secondary School had an opportunity this week to learn about careers in the live entertainment industry through a special visit from Live Nation Canada. The school, located near Rogers Stadium, welcomed members of the Live Nation team for a career panel designed to introduce young people to the many roles that bring concerts and live events to life.
The panel featured four women who have been instrumental in the development and operations of Rogers Stadium: Kyla MacDonald (Project Manager), Desiree Amani (Experience Manager), Umu Sowe (Director of Food and Beverage), and Krista Benson (Event Manager). Each shared insights into their career paths, the skills needed in their fields, and the teamwork required to deliver live events.
They were joined by Nathalie Burri, Senior Vice President of Operations, who attended in support of the discussion. The session was moderated by Shabnum Durrani, Vice President of Public Affairs, who guided a conversation focused on the transferable skills that help people succeed in live entertainment, as well as the advice each panelist would give their younger selves. Students then had the chance to break into smaller groups, allowing for deeper conversations and more personal questions with each panelist.
The timing of the visit aligned with International Women’s Day, which is recognized later this week, making the event especially meaningful. Live Nation Canada highlighted the significant contributions of the women leading the stadium’s development and emphasized the importance of showing students real examples of women shaping the future of the industry.
Students asked thoughtful questions throughout the session, showing strong interest in how concerts come together behind the scenes.
Live Nation Canada’s commitment to supporting local youth is a key part of the long‑term legacy of Rogers Stadium. By connecting students with industry professionals, the organization hopes to inspire future talent and strengthen its relationship with the surrounding neighbourhood.
